Frequently Asked Questions

We know it's boring, but it's stuff you ask. Stuff you need to know, want to know. So we've added it all to our website. We'll be adding additional information soon. Feel free to contact us with questions, suggestions, feedback, etc. Thanks!

What is "custom photography", and why should I choose to have it done?

"What custom photography ultimately is all about is choice and experience (as in THE experience). Custom photography is about finding someone who will photograph your family, give you devoted 1:1 attention without worry of the next ‘in line’ or the feeling of a crowded portrait studio. A custom photographer will typically show you a fairly extensive gallery culled to only show the good images that meet the photographers’ creative sensibilities. Often the images are fully edited images-color corrected with blemishes and undereye circles removed. Custom photographers are also known as boutique studios, offering a range of products and unparalleled service. Think Lexus vs. Hyundai, think Nordstrom vs. WalMart. Custom photography should have you, the client and your experience in mind."

~Excerpt from What is Custom Photography, by Marianne Drenthe.

How long does a photo session last and what's included?
Each session is unique. It depends on how many pets or people are involved, if there are wardrobe changes, location changes, or "uncooperative" subjects. We shoot in both formal and photojournalistic styles, using either natural light or studio lighting techniques.

Our standard photo session lasts one hour and includes:

  • A personalized photo session to fit your needs (up to four people, or two pets- for additional subjects, see below)
  • Studio setting or location (special mileage/location rates may apply, see below)
  • Detailed post-processing and careful retouching of each of your favorite images (total images will vary per session)
  • Private online viewing gallery to share with friends and family
  • Our artistic vision, personalized service, & attention to detail, for a relaxed and more enjoyable custom photo session
How much do you charge for a photo session?
A single session is $100 weekdays, or $150 on weekends. For special event, or group fees, please see below, or contact us for details.

Additions:

  • Additional subjects: $25 each
  • Time: please add $50 for each additional hour
  • Travel: additional mileage over 30 miles from 30624 will be charged at $ .50 per mile
  • Special Locations: We have several favorite locations to choose from depending on the date, season, and theme of your shoot. If you would like to have your session shot at a location other than your home (or business), please let us know so that arrangements can be discussed. An additional location fee may be applied.
Do you photograph weddings?
We are still putting together our wedding portfolio, but please contact us to share details of your special day so that we can customize a package for you.

I've got a (birthday party, engagement party, reunion, get together, pet party, etc) coming up and need a photographer. What would you charge?
Each event is unique. Please contact us so that we can discuss your needs.

My schedule's really busy and I don't have time for a full session. I just want a few pictures for a gift, or to share; not a fancy photo shoot. Do you have anything like that?
We schedule many special events throughout the year. These theme inspired shoots are quick, relatively pain free, and possibly even fun! Most of our special events benefit local charities, so for a small sitting fee donation you'll get the same top quality, professional care, for a fraction of the cost and time.

Can I get a CD of my order?
At this time we do not offer CDs, however, you are welcome to order digital downloads of any of your favorite finished images. These images are limited to personal use only, and Cosgrave Studios retains the copyright. Because you will be able to print the images at home, or your local lab, we cannot guarantee the quality of the final print. Please see http://www.smugmug.com/prints/personal-download for details.

When will my photos be ready?
The fees charged for your photo session don't just cover the time it takes for your shoot. We spend hours creating custom art by color correcting, editing, removing spots and blemishes, and more. Proof times vary for each session or event. Generally, private sessions take anywhere from 7-14 days to process; but may take longer depending on the number of images. I always try to post some sneak peeks within a day or so. For special events, we try to get the images posted within 24-48 hours, but again- the time may vary depending on the number of photos and subjects.

I received an email telling me that there would be a delay of up to 9 days before my order would be processed! Why?
Because each gallery or album is unique, some photos are uploaded as "proofs" with minimum editing performed. We like to review each of your images for correct color, cropping, quality, and size before finalizing your order. This can generally be done quickly with no delay in your overall processing and delivery time.
